How to plant fruit trees

The dream of any gardener is to create a beautiful and fruitful garden on his plot. How difficult is this task? You have to understand that all fruit trees are perennial, therefore, it will be possible to harvest the first crop only after 3–7 years. And only if the tree is planted correctly. In our article we will describe how the planting of seedlings of fruit trees, the timing and instructions for planting

Usually planting seedlings occurs in the spring, as this gives the plants the greatest time for rooting and growth before the winter cold. But at the same time, shrubs and trees can be replanted at any time of rest, i.e., after the foliage is discharged and before bud break.

You can plant seedlings in the fall and winter. Winter landing time is the most gentle for the root system, but difficult for the gardener himself. For this reason, it is recommended to leave this type of planting to professionals. Based on all of the above, it is better to replant most of the crops in spring, after the soil thaws and before bud breaks, this will allow the seedling to settle down more easily.

Only good and healthy seedlings can produce excellent growth, fruiting and flowering. Therefore, when choosing them, be especially careful. It is advisable to purchase seedlings in specialized nurseries in the native region, so that the plants acclimatize quickly and well. In this case, the plants must be healthy, without traces of pests and diseases. These are the seedlings we sell in our nursery KFH Orchard.

Saplings of fruit trees should have strong roots, the thickness of the trunk is more than 2 cm, 3 or more skeletal branches, the length of which is from 45 cm. When purchasing, be sure to inspect the trunk and bark, so that they do not have any mechanical damage, stains, or color changes Rose seedlings, in addition to healthy stems, must have a strong root system. If the plant is supplied in a container, its roots should sit firmly in the earthy coma, with an open rhizome, it should not dry out.

If you plan to plant fruit trees in the garden, then you need to choose the right place for planting and neighbors for the tree. It is advisable to draw a diagram of the site, which accurately indicate the location of fruit crops and all points of future work.

First, determine the types and varieties of trees. After that, make a plan of landing, denoting for each type of its distinctive features:

maximum tree height to account for the degree of shading of neighboring crops;
type of tree crown to prevent thickening of plantations;
when fruiting begins - early, middle or late ripening to ensure proper care. Add the approximate distance between crops to the scheme in order to prevent close proximity between tall and spreading trees and small bushes, as in this case they will start to disappear. The distance is calculated as follows:

Medium and tall trees with a wide crown should grow on a plot whose perimeter is at least 10 m by 10 m.
The perimeter of the site for dwarf trees is 5 m by 5 m.
The perimeter of the site for columnar cultures - 2 m by 2 m.
It is also important to remember about the proper selection of neighbors, because not all trees are able to get along peacefully with each other.

Follow these rules:

Sit near the apple tree pear, plum, quince and cherry. And do not plant viburnum and sweet cherry.
Rowan and apple trees feel good next to the pear. But to grow a tree near the plum, cherry and viburnum is not recommended.
Cherry and plum get along well near the apple tree. But next to a pear, we do not advise them to plant.

When should young saplings be planted? In the literature, you can often find recommendations for planting in the autumn. It is only important to consider that such a rule is acceptable only to the southern regions.
In the northern areas, as a rule, landing is carried out in the spring. And even in this case, many manage to save the plants of the most heat-loving crops, successfully transfer them to the soil with an open root system. That's just such a landing has one feature. It should be done as early as possible so that the tree will meet the beginning of the growing season in the soil.
When to plant seedlings of fruit trees in the spring, if they already have foliage? Such plants cannot wait, so they need to be planted:
as soon as stable heat comes and there is no likelihood of shoots and roots freezing, especially at night;
in cloudy weather to minimize the possibility of sunburn of leaves and buds, which are not accustomed to the direct rays of the sun.
The exact timing of planting fruit trees in springtime depends on the climate and weather characteristics of the region, as well as the composition of the soil and the location of the site. Usually in the lowlands the snow melts less actively, the ground dries out badly, and this postpones the planting of seedlings.

What can be planted

How to grow a tree from seed

Well ripened seeds are washed and soaked in a stimulating solution for three days (at the same time, water is changed daily). In the autumn they plant immediately. For planting in the spring of several months stored in the freezer for stratification.

Keep in mind that trees grown by themselves from seeds, grow very tall. Indeed, unlike the cultivated fruit breeds that all nurseries offer, they were not initially grafted onto a dwarf stock.

How to plant a pear

Most species of pears known to summer residents do not impose special requirements on the exposure and composition of the soil. But it is better to take root and grow pear trees on humus-rich, loose soils and well-lit areas. Young plants do not tolerate drought. In the first years they need to be watered plentifully and often. Pears begin to bear fruit at the age of 3-8 years.
As a result of hybridization of species, specialists in the field of selection have developed a huge number of interesting varieties. Among the popular ones are: “Pear Klappa Favorite”, “Lada Pear”, “Nectar Pear”, “Cathedral”, “Allegro”, “Dibrovskaya”, “Beauty Chernenko”.

How to plant an apple tree

Skoroplodny varieties of some apple trees can bloom in the first spring. But they are not yet sufficiently developed to form a full harvest in the fall. Therefore, for a good survival rate, the buds are cut off even before their blooming. In the second year (provided that the plant develops without problems), a couple of dozen flowers are left on the tree.

Among the most easily adaptable varieties of apple trees are the following: “Grushovka Moskovskaya”, “Antonovka ordinary”, “Summer striped”, “Cranberry”, “Dessert Isaeva”, “Gift of Grafsky”, “Cinnamon New”. Good varieties: "Chinese Kerr", "Arkadik", "Oval", "Medunitsa" and "Candy".

How to plant a cherry

Fruiting of cherries largely depends on the place of landing on the site. Wrong selection leads to poor growth and low yields. The cherry root system, located close to the surface, is sensitive to drought. Therefore, loosening after watering produce extremely carefully.
In the gardens of our country local varieties prevail, winter-hardy: Octave, Bagryanaya, Kent, Shubinka, Rossoshanskaya Chernaya, Rusinka, Polevka, Molodezhnaya, Malinovka, Prima , "Turgenevka", "Lyubskaya", "Zhukovskaya", "Generous".
